Thomas Ahrenkiel is Director of the Danish Defence Intelligence Service (DDIS). Mr. Ahrenkiel also served as Director of the DDIS from 2010 to 2015.

From 2021 to August 2025, Mr Ahrenkiel served as partner and Director of the Europe Division in the Global Advisory firm Macro Advisory Partners.

Mr. Ahrenkiel has held senior decision-making roles within the Danish Civil Service for more than 25 years. From 2015 to 2020, Mr. Ahrenkiel served as Permanent Secretary of State for Defence. Prior to this, Mr. Ahrenkiel served as Director of the Danish Defence Intelligence Service (2010-2015), Diplomatic Adviser (2007-2010) and Chief European Adviser (2003-2006) in the Prime Minister’s Office. From 1992 to 2003 he served at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark.

Mr Ahrenkiel holds a Master of Science in Economics (Cand.Polit.) from the University of Copenhagen (1992) and a Diplôme d’Études Approfondies in Applied Economics and International Relations from Institut d’Etudes Politiques de Paris (Sciences Po).
